Old Hollywood Designer Vintage 1940s Gown by Lettie Lee Rare Hooded Dress Purple

  
Incredible & rare 1940s gown by Lettie Lee, Hollywood a costumer designer for 1930s & 40s films. Gorgeous deep purple color with ultra dramatic attached scarf that wears as a hood! Mid-weight rayon crepe fabric, in a saturated purple. Full length with voluminous skirt; a LOT of fabric in this piece. Sweetheart neckline with gathers, strappy sleeveless fit, and fantastic draped piece attached at back left of gown.

Plenty of length to the scarf to use as a wrap, neck scarf, or the coveted 1940s hooded style! It is backed in a shiny satin fabric with a touch more red to the purple color as pictured. The styling options are many for this amazing piece. It is freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear, with a few things to note. None pose an issue to wearing or presentation.

Overall, for the crepe fabric and purple color it is in excellent condition. There is some extremely light color shift to a lighter purple throughout skirt under close inspection, but it is easily lost in the sheer amount of fabric. There is an approximate 1/2 size hole and a smaller one near it in the scarf where it looks to have been caught on something.

Old repairs to straps where they attach to bodice. Most significant thing to note is that the thick cotton sateen liner of bodice has begun to shatter. The rayon fabric is still extremely strong & sturdy with no dryness, no smells, no major stains, etc. It is still wearable with the bodice liner in current condition, and I left it in place as it is an original detail to this couture quality piece - but it could easily just be cut out if desired. Zipper has been replaced with a nylon zipper.

Some wear at back of dress where wrap / scarf piece attaches as pictured. Some wear to stitches at bodice gathers as pictured. Priced accordingly for this rare piece, in ready to wear condition.
